Map lights won't shut off

Today my map lights turned on and wouldn't shut off while I was parking it. I pressed the light covers and flipping the switch didn't help. No warning lights on the dash either. The lights stayed on for hours and got really hot. I called the dealer and they tried to lock the car with the key fob. this worked for now but just curious if anyone has experienced this as well? Is this normal or just a glitch? I got a 2016 Kona by the way

Okay, so it's not normal, but it's a weird thing that Konas do sometimes. Usually, it's either the map light switch getting stuck or a glitch in the car's computer. Locking it with the key fob cuts the power, so that's likely why it stopped.

When you're parked, does the light turn off if you mess with the dome light switch, you know, the one with the door/off/on settings? Might be worth a shot.

@heartwrenching8965 nope, not normal at all for map lights to stay on for hours and get hot in a 2016 Kona! That sounds like a short or a faulty switch/module
also, the dealer's trick of locking with the fob likely put the car's electrical system into a deeper 'sleep' mode, which temporarily cut power to the lights. It's a workaround, not a fix

It's not normal, but these things happen sometimes as cars age, good call on locking it with the fob, that usually resets the system
