Hybrid engine off before water crossing?

I got caught in some super slow traffic during a rainstorm while driving my 2022 Kona Hybrid. Just as I was about to hit this big puddle, the engine shut off. I couldn't help but worry about water getting into the exhaust while it was off. Has anyone dealt with this kind of thing in a hybrid? I'd love some tips on how to handle it

Hybrids can be a bit different, but a quick engine shutdown in heavy rain is usually fine, just avoid deep water and give the exhaust a quick rev once you're moving again to clear any moisture

Are you more concerned about preventing water from entering the exhaust in the future, or figuring out whether this incident might have already caused any hidden damage to your Kona Hybrid?

I think a little water on the road or even a puddle shouldn't hurt the exhaust, as long as you're not completely submerged. If you do hit deep water, it's safest to go slow and avoid splashing the intake area. Once you're past the puddle, the engine will usually restart automatically.
