Android Auto split screen not working on 2022 Kona Limited?

Not sure if this is the right spot to ask, but I'm posting here since it's the closest match I could find. My roommate just bought a used 2022 Hyundai Kona Limited and we're struggling with the Android Auto display. Instead of the split screen showing maps and music, it will only display 1 app at a time, forcing us to flip back and forth. I know it's supposed to work on the 10.25-inch screen, so is there a specific setting buried in the infotainment menu that we need to change?

To enjoy full-screen Android Auto on your Kona Limited's 10.25-inch display, give this a shot: first, disconnect your phone. Then head over to the setup menu, find device connections, select phone projection, and look for Android Auto. There should be an option to disable the split screen if it's available

If that option isn't showing up, double-check that your infotainment system has the latest firmware update from Hyundai's website. Some folks also find that toggling the multi-window icon in Android Auto can change the view

Well, saying this not just to make you feel better but you're not the only one running into that. There are 2022 Konas that need a software update before split screen works, even if the screen size supports it.

Thanks to you both for the helpful info. We'll start with the software update. Is that something we can download onto a USB stick or does the dealer have to do it?

With Hyundai's setup, it's not always straightforward and the issue usually isn't with the car, but with android auto itself, your roommate's phone is running the newer coolwalk UI, it should automatically support split screen, but it often requires enabling it through the android auto app settings on the phone

Yeah, the 2022 Kona typically uses the USB method but newer models get over-the-air updates.
Your roommate will need to visit the official Hyundai Navigation Update website, download their "Navigation Updater" application, and use it to copy the correct update files to a 64GB exFAT formatted USB drive.
Then, just plug the USB into the car's data USB and follow the prompts on the infotainment screen.
Make sure the engine stays running during the update, which can take some time.
The other option is to get a dealership do it for you.

I wanted to post an update and extend my thanks to everyone who offered advice. A special mention to the guys who suggested checking the phone settings and the one who provided the detailed USB update guide. We performed both of those steps this weekend and I can confirm the split screen is now functioning correctly in my roommate's car.
